Have you ever felt the need to defend your faith in God? Maybe you’ve even been mocked for being a Christian. In certain circles you could be considered gullible, closed-minded, anti-intellectual, or worse.
Think of it like this George Orwell quote: “The further a society drifts from the truth, the more they’ll despise it when they hear it.”
The absolute truth of Jesus Christ is offensive to unbelievers. Therefore, we shouldn’t be surprised when their reaction is to attack your faith and/or mock you as a believer.
Here’s the beautiful thing. Do you know what the Bible tells us to do when that happens?
Celebrate! Jump for joy!
“Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven.” -Luke 6:22-23
As I watched my kids jump on their new trampoline, I couldn’t help but think that this is what our reaction should be to pushback from unbelievers. It’s easier said than done, I know, but take this as encouragement when you face this. And remember, these people are not your enemy, they’re the mission field!
